Sometimes on a good skin day you can get away with without applying foundation. Concealer is probably the one piece of makeup that still remains indispensable. There are many different types of concealers depending on what you are looking for. I will talk about coverage, pigmentation and type of formula.
Pen illuminators appear to be quite convenient way of using concealer. A while back I purchased Estee Lauder Ideal Light Brush-on Illuminator. The coverage and formula are very light. On application it seamlessly blends in with skin without leaving any harsh edges. I feel like on a good skin day I can get away with only using this illuminating pen alone. Be aware that the coverage is very light and perhaps is not enough to completely mask any redness or under eye dark circles. If you are gravitating towards illuminating pan I feel like Loreal Lumi Magique Touch of Light highlighting pen performs as good. Formulas are very similar and results are equally as good. If I have to nitpick Loreal Lumi Magique formula is a bit more powdery and tend to crease after a couple of hours. Coverage is very light and blends naturally with the skin.
For slightly more coverage but still lightweight formula this three products win all categories. Clarins Instant Concealer has a light weight dewy consistency. The coverage is light to medium. It blends very easily and covers well redness as well as blue/purple tones. It lasts hours on the skin without any creasing or fading out. Another very similar alternative is Mac Select Moisture Cover Concealer. This range was re- formulated and re-launched as Mac Mineralize Concealer. The formula is very similar if not the same. Light weight and delivering light to medium coverage. This Mac concealer did not have as great coverage as Clarins. However Mac’s range of colors is far more extensive. Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer is exceptionally good in erasing under eye circles. The formula is ticker and translates into medium coverage. It is easy to blend and manages to blur any fine lines. It is very long lasting.
If you are more into cream based concealers Skeek has a Corrector and Concealer Palette. The two creamy shades have very light coverage and tend to slip and more quite a bit. The best part of the trio is the yellow powder that does great job at setting and locking your concealer into place. Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer also consist of three pieces. There are two creamy concealers that have tick consistency and gives medium coverage. Once set with the translucent powder it tend to last a good while without any major creasing or separation. The lighter color brightens the under eye aria while the darker pink shade gives more natural “fresh” look. In short this concealer is great budget option that delivers good results.
These are my trusty concealer options, tested over the years. Finding a good concealer can take a bit of time but my advice to you is when you do find your match just stick to it.
