I’m no Egyptian Queen or Leprechaun but I do like a generous pot a gold. The massive success and popularity among celebrities of using 24K Gold as a skin care ingredient is often identified as the reason behind their flawless skin complexions. As a regular girl I could not even begin to imagine testing such exclusive treatment because of the extortionate price tag that might come with. Recently it all became possible (for a fraction of the price) and now I can report if covering my face in gold made me look like a million pounds.
Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask comes in this glorious gel like consistency that is meant to be applied as a thick layer. The instructions recommended leaving it on between 5- 10 minutes, which I did but had a bit of hard time taking it off. The tick, sticky and slippery consistency is hard to be removed only with water and I tend to keep clean face cloth nearby when using this mask. Before I report on the results I experienced I think its worthwhile pointing out the ingredient list in order to manage expectations. In short here are few main ingredients:
- 24k gold and Colloidal gold – as far as my research go gold is more of a catalyst rather than active ingredient. What that means is that Colloidal gold help other ingredient activate and work better on the skin.
- Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin – this two ingredients really contribute the type of texture this mask have. They help lock moisture into the top layers of the skin and also contribute to soother and plump looking skin.
- Caffeine – is a popular ingredient when it comes to reducing redness and inflammation, tightening and brightening the skin. Caffeine constricts blood vessels, making cells shed excess water resulting in temporally slimming effect and tighter looking skin.
- Peridot (Magnesium) – this is an ingredient that our bodies already contain, that helps our cells recover from damage. This ingredient helps reduce skin inflammation and also helps with oxidation in the skin.
After using this mask couple of times I did see number of effects that were similar to claims on the packaging. For the record my skin is dry, dehydrated and a bit only around my nose and chin aria. Just a quick application trick you really need to apply 2 -3 layers all over your face, just to make sure all is covered and there is excess product that will lock much better the ingredients on the skin. After use I did experience some skin tightness without feeling dry, which worked wonders on my oilier arias and helped shrink my pores. Also my sensitive arias appeared less red and irritated than usual. Although my skin is already quite fair I could detect a slight brightening effect. In terms of plumpness, smoothness and hydration I did see quite some improvement. My skin was felt velvet soft and plumper.
Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Mask costs £55 and it’s a great quick fix type of a product. It hydrates, smoothens and brightens up the complexion while covering your face in gold. I’m not entirely sure to what extend Colloidal gold contributed to the overall effect of this mask but if it doesn’t I really like the novelty of it.
