Sun protection is very very important and you should be taking the matter more seriously. I have to admit that i like many others find applying sunscreen a chore but there are some real consequences if you choose not to do it. Dealing with skin pigmentation and red inflated skin for the most part of my sensible life, I learned the hard way that applying SPF is not just an extra step in your skincare routine. It is more of a preventative measure that solves range problems before they even become problems. These three products are my new sunscreen staples including some great physical SPF alternatives. They are convenient, easy to use on the go and look almost undetectable on the skin.
Shiseido Expert Sun Aging Protection Lotion SPF 30 in very water resistant is a great compact little product that is more suitable for the body rather than the face. I carry this little blue bottle in my handbag most of the time between May and September. The consistency is very lightweight and very liquidy making it easy to apply. It absorbs quickly and initially it does tend to leave a slight white sheen. The sheen tends to quickly melt into the skin in minutes and leave slight mortifying finish. Few times not I tried to apply this lotion not only on my body (arms and legs mostly) but also on my face. Trouble is that it really does not react well with makeup and in case.
SkinCeuticals Sheer Mineral UV Defense SPF 50 is a bit hard to come across but again totally worth the trouble getting. This is a physical SPF which is a type I personally prefer, especially in combination with my sensitive skin and also dealing with skin pigmentation. The formula is sheer, lightweight with ever so slight white cast that turns matte quickly after application. Quick tip: apply your SPF after serum and moisturizer and before makeup; some SPF also work great as a makeup primer. Not so long ago I was head over heels for Clarins UV Plus HP Multi-Protection Day Screen SPF50. I still think is a great product but this Skinceuticals version comes in a bigger packaging, smaller price and perform equally as good.
I like Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de Soin Anti-UV Mist SPF 30 just because of the unbelievable convince of it. This is a rehydrating water mist with SPF in it in a spray form, which means application takes seconds. The mist is fine enough to not disturb any makeup (watch out for smudging your mascara if you spray it from too close) but just in case make sure you apply it on your face from a moderate distance. On the skin, it feels non-sticky or greasy making it absolute summer handbag essential. This product is not meant to not replace proper SPF application, it is more meant for a quick top-up on the go.
Know your UV rays
UVA = cause premature aging. These rays are strong and do penetrate through clouds and windows.
UVB = causes skin to burn. These rays are blocked my clouds and windows but they are responsible for skin cancers.
The science facts behind SPF protection:
SPF 15 = 93% UVB protection
SPF 30 = 97% UVB protection
SPF 50 = 98% UVB protection
